Natural?
Isn't it all a bit of a laugh talking about natural
with regard to our
relationship with horses. Surely the most natural
thing for a horse is to be
out on the plains or the wilds of the moors with no human in sight!
There is a rapidly increasing number of people using variations on the term
Natural Horsemanship
to describe their way of relating to their horse, so what
are they on about?
Well for some, this is a popular and highly profitable band wagon to jump on, so whatever you are looking for BEWARE and use your common sense, check things out carefully, trust yourself and listen to your horse.
What we aspire to is partnership. The horses (and all animals) in our care are living, feeling beings. They are intelligent and deserve respect and consideration. Most people would agree with this immediately, but in order to really partner a horse, we must not only consider what we want, but also what the horse wants and this must be done with the horse in mind. If your horse could talk with you, what would s/he say to you?
For example, horses are herd animals. Does your horse enjoy being on his or her own in a stable? Some do, some don't... watch and listen to your horse.
