This is a short list of books that I have read, so far. I am indebted to Craig Stevens for, amongst many things, pointing me at this rich written tradition.

Interested but having difficulty finding these books?
There are online bookshops for secondhand, out of print, antiquarian, or just plain hard to find books. Try these:
These are sites that appear to run a subscription service to bookshops rather than being bookshops themselves. Being a source for secondhand books, what's available changes frequently, so if you don't find what you're looking for there today it doesn't mean they won't have it tomorrow. In addition they, or at least certainly Abe Books, runs a reliable "please notify me when" service that you can register your interest with and it will email you when they have the book you require. They don't seem to use this service to send you any kind of general mailing. These companies are (obviously?) not specifically equestrian either.
Another very useful bookshop is Knight Books, a specifically equine bookstore in the US who definitely do ship to the UK, after debiting my credit card on a Friday the book I ordered from them arrived on the Monday!
Of course, try Amazon. You may find that a book you thought had to be bought expensively second hand might be in print very reasonably (I speak from painful experience). Alternatively, just put the title or author's name into your favourite search engine, you're almost certain to find many sources, though not all will respond...
